The International Menopause Society (IMS) and the World Health Organization (WHO) have adopted October 18 as “World Menopause Day” in order to raise women's awareness about menopause and possible health problems all over the world.
The meaning of the word ”menopause" is the absence of menstrual bleeding in a woman. It is also the termination of fertility with the absence of menstruation. A woman who has not menstruated for a year is considered to have entered the menopause period. The age of menopause in our country is usually 47-49, and in the world it is about 50-52 years. In order for the onset of menopause and the period after it to be healthy, health checks should be performed once a year. Especially after the age of 40, it is necessary to do mammography for breast cancer, ultrasound and smear scans for uterine and cervical cancers.
